Confused about the NDIS? These free local workshops will help
With the Moreton Bay region gearing up to transition to the National Disability Insurance Scheme (NDIS) from 1 January, 2019, UnitingCare Queensland is hosting free workshops to help locals understand the process better.
Graham Hambleton, Manager of UnitingCare’s Disability Leadership Unit, said the free public workshops are open to people with disability, their carers’ and family members.
“We understand that the NDIS can seem very confusing, so our goal is to use our expertise to help people answer the questions they may have about the NDIS process,” Mr Hambleton said.
“We’re providing free workshops throughout August and September to help people get the jump on NDIS planning.
“Workshops will be available in Redcliffe, North Lakes, Morayfield, Bribie Island and Caboolture on Thursday nights and Saturdays.”
Mr Hambleton said that UnitingCare Queensland had enjoyed working with clients throughout Queensland who had already transitioned to the NDIS and had plenty of tips to share from the experience.
“The NDIS is much more than a new way of funding, it ultimately aims to influence community inclusion for people with disability and enable them to build up all the elements of a good life,” explained Mr Hambleton.
“We want to support an inclusive society and that begins with helping people really understand how the NDIS works and what they need to do get the most out of it.”
Mr Hambleton emphasised all people eligible for the scheme will be required to have a planning meeting with the NDIS, so a strong focus of the workshops would be on how to best prepare for that.
