Help from one farmer to another

The life of a farmer can be rewarding; however, it is not without its share of challenges. From isolation to difficult weather conditions, there are many experiences that can take a toll on mental health and wellbeing. For some, it can all start to feel a little overwhelming.

Our Farmer to Farmer support line is here to help by providing tailored support from someone who knows how tough it can get – a fellow farmer.

If you’re feeling the pressures of rural life, that’s normal and OK. It’s important to remember that you don’t have to go through it alone. Simply pick up the phone. Our farmers can provide a listening ear, talk on farmers’ terms, and suggest some simple strategies to help manage the stress.

If you’re doing it a bit tough, don’t go it alone. Call Farmer to Farmer on 1800 936 229 (business hours).

Who we support

Our Farmer to Farmer support line is for farmers, their families and anyone who may be experiencing the pressures of life on the farm. We provide support when you’re feeling overwhelmed.

Farmers are known for their fortitude; however, prolonged exposure to adversity may leave you feeling withdrawn, angry or hopeless. It’s important to know that support is available. We’re always here for you, ready to listen.

Meet our farmers

This support line is for farmers by farmers. That means you’ll speak to a fellow farmer who understands what you’re going through.

Our farmer Ross Blanch

Ross Blanch

Ross Blanch is a Lower Mount Walker dairy farmer. He has first-hand experience, over many years, of the strains and stress that come with being a farmer in Queensland. Ross is available to provide a listening ear and share some simple strategies when needed.

Narelle Clem

Narelle Clem grew up on a dairy farm in the Gympie district in Queensland and married a beef and small crops farmer. Narelle completed a counselling degree in 2021 after her remedial massage clients said they wanted to talk to her rather than the counsellors she was referring them to. Narelle is ready to provide practical support should you need it.

Ken Meldrum

Ken grew up in rural north east Victoria on a mixed farm. After leaving school he initially became a share farmer growing tobacco on a family farm near Myrtleford for 3 years. Following this he was encouraged to attain qualifications in Health Science and Mental Health through becoming a Registered Nurse. Throughout his nursing career he has maintained links to his rural upbringing and worked through various rural and remote placements across Queensland, this has also included various placements within mental health support as well.

Ken had a special interest in Men’s Health and Suicide Prevention throughout his nursing career which has led to him working for Farmer to Farmer currently. He is also involved in other projects across Qld and NSW raising awareness of suicide prevention and promoting mental health and wellbeing.
