Social supports for people with disability

If you want to become more active in your community, our Better Lives service on the north side of Brisbane is for you. Our social and community supports for people with disability can assist you to explore what’s possible, achieve your goals and live your best life.

With UnitingCare, it’s all about you. You know better than anyone your own needs and goals, so we’ll work with you to put the right supports and services into place so you can live the life you want. We take an individual approach in everything we do, because we know each person we support is unique. What does this look like in practice? It means we’re completely flexible, and you’re in control when it comes to choosing the services you want, when you want them and the people who support you.

Enjoying your community

If you want to get out and about more, do more of what you enjoy or try something new, we can support you.

What would you like to do?

  • Build or maintain your current friendships or relationships
  • Become more active in a group
  • Learn a new skill
  • Grow your knowledge and confidence getting around or using public transport
  • Go on holiday
  • Join a new group or pursue a new interest
  • Something else? We’ll work with you to achieve your goals in the community

A break for you, and your carer (flexible respite)

Getting out and about with someone different can be a nice change. If you want to get out of the house, access the community or find an activity, community participation is a great option for you. For carers, it provides a break from everyday life, allowing you to catch up on your other responsibilities and recharge. You might know this as flexible respite.

In some areas in Queensland, we offer these supports via BlueCare, one of Queensland’s largest and most trusted support providers.

How we work

We work with ‘one person’ at a time to:

  • Explore a vision to create opportunities to imagine and to achieve a personally meaningful future.
  • Promote individual choice to lead a life that is both purposeful and aspirational.
  • Empower with choice, opportunity and belief to create and realise your aspirations.

We work with you to develop a plan that is unique to you, designed in consultation with you, your family and other significant people in your life to ensure an inclusive approach.

We undertake meaningful assessments of your needs and partner with you to create, plan and deliver supports that assist you to achieve a vision for your future.

Better Lives is committed to working in partnership with people with disability, and their families. We are passionate about supporting people to live better lives, to follow their passion and to find their own way in the world.

Why us?

At UnitingCare, we believe everyone has the right to live a rich and fulfilling life that is not defined by disability — a life where you’re free to make your own decisions, however big or small. We encourage people to challenge their limits and support them in setting their long-term goals.

UnitingCare is a registered NDIS provider, which means we meet the high standards required by the NDIA and can deliver services and supports to people who have their plan managed by the NDIA, as well as those who self-manage or use a third-party plan manager.

Liam
“What I like about my support workers is that they help me by getting me into work to start my own micro business. I also go to the gym to work on my fitness and have improved my routine. As my support continues I hope to continue to grow my independence.”
