Experiences of domestic and family violence can have a lasting impact on children and young people.
Safe Spaces offers counselling support for children under 18 on the Sunshine Coast in a safe, supportive and child focused environment.
Appointments are provided in person from our Maroochydore office during business hours. The service is available to children and young people who have experienced, or are experiencing, domestic and family violence, where their family has already received or is currently engaged with domestic and family violence support.
Who this service is for
Children and young people may be eligible for Safe Spaces if they:
- are under 18 years old
- live on the Sunshine Coast
- have experienced or are experiencing domestic and family violence
- have a family that has received or is currently engaged with domestic and family violence support prior to referral
Referrals
We accept both self referrals and referrals from other services.
After a referral is received, families are placed on an expression of interest list. When a counsellor becomes available, they will contact the family to arrange a parent interview. This helps us understand the child or young person’s needs before counselling begins.
