No one size fits all for foster carers

November 21, 2022

If you’ve ever thought about foster caring, you are needed now more than ever.

UnitingCare’s Foster and Kinship Care state-wide manager Amanda Moormann says there are not enough foster carers to meet demand.

“If you’ve got that spark, that desire, you like children, you think you might be able to help – even if you’re not sure and you want to find out more – come along to an information session or pick up the phone and call 1300 554 240,” she says.

Ms Moormann urges people not to be put off by common misconceptions around qualifications, and whether you have your own children or not.

“There’s no one mould that fits becoming a foster carer,” she says. “We really do take you on that journey and assess and talk you through what is going to work.”

Listen to UnitingCare’s Amanda Moormann chat with ABC Radio Brisbane about what it takes to become a foster carer and why these unsung heroes are so urgently needed.
