Everything you need to know about the NDIS

The National Disability Insurance Scheme (NDIS) is the new system through which people with a disability can access support and government funding.

How is the NDIS different from the old funding system?

The NDIS transforms how you receive funding and support. Better still, it can transform how you live your life. You now get much more choice over which supports you want to use – as well as who provides them. And, unlike previously, you control the spending.

What supports can I access through the NDIS?

The NDIS will help you achieve your goals and live a better life. Depending on your personal circumstances, the NDIS can help you to access a range of services and supports, including:

  • Community activities
  • Education and employment
  • Independent living support
  • Allied healthcare like physio or podiatry (as long as they relate to your disability)

The new system is designed to complement other supports and services you receive, not replace them. Receiving funding through the NDIS won’t affect any other income support you might be receiving and it’s not means-tested.
