Voluntary support workers needed

Are you passionate about empowering people with disability to achieve their travel dreams? We’d love you to join our amazing group of volunteers.

As a voluntary support worker, you can accompany travellers on trips, working closely with the Beyond Borders Travel team to make sure they have the best experience possible. It’s an opportunity to provide companionship, personal care and social support to travellers. Training is provided and your accommodation, transport, main meals and activities are all covered. There are also opportunities to volunteer in the office.

Frequently asked questions

  • Why do we need voluntary support workers?

Voluntary support workers ensure that people with disability have individuals in their life who are there because they choose to be. They aren’t paid, and they give up their time willingly to help others. Our volunteers provide companionship, personal care and social support to encourage independence and to help travellers feel part of a community. Being a volunteer is an important and rewarding job!

  • What’s involved in being a voluntary support worker with Beyond Borders Travel?

Here are some of the duties our volunteers carry out:

    • Accompany travellers on holidays that require overnight stays
    • Work under the direction of the Holiday Co-ordinator to observe duty-of-care requirements for the individual you’re supporting
    • Participate in the delivery of any support required in order to help travellers undertake holiday activities

  • Do volunteers need to cover their own expenses on the trip?

No. Accommodation, transport, main meals and activity expenses are covered for the duration of the trip.

  • I’m a student. Can I volunteer as part of my training?

Absolutely! If you’re a student, we provide placement opportunities to help meet your practical experience hours.

  • I’m not in a position to go on overnight trips but I’d love to be involved. What other voluntary positions can I apply for?

We have volunteers working across a range of areas of the program: from administration and business development to marketing and graphic design. Get in touch today to discuss what skills you can bring to the team.
